• «Modon»: 3 technical areas in the Kingdom to support the knowledge economy

    In his speech to AlEqtisadiah, Bandar Al-Taaimi, the Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications and the official spokesman of the Saudi Organization for Industrial Estates and Technology Areas "Modon", emphasized the presence of three technical zones licensed to operate cities for inventors and innovators on a total area estimated at 2.901 million square meters in order to localize technology and support the knowledge economy in Saudi Arabia.

    He said that the Kingdom was not far from the direction and competitiveness of the countries of the world towards the knowledge economy, as the business sector in the industrial sector is counting on the scientific outputs of universities. The economy is becoming increasingly innovative, as the Kingdom is working in diversifying its economy, in which the knowledge economy and entrepreneurship are a different starting point, according to the vision of the Kingdom of 2030.

     

    Al-Taaimi said that Modon is keen to boost the quality of the economy through providing it with a platform for technical entrepreneurs. It has issued operating licenses for three technical zones.

    He pointed out that in accordance with the mandate of "Modon" by the adoption of studies and plans and the issuance of licenses for the operation and development of technical areas, which are established on government land or private sector land, it targeted the issuance of licenses for the development of technical valleys created within universities such as The Makka Techno Valley, the Riyadh Techno Valley, as well as technical areas developed by government agencies such as Alraidah Digital City.

     

    He stressed that Makka techno Valley at the University of Umm al-Qura in Makka is located on a total area amounted to 431 thousand square meters, which is indicating that the completion rate reached 12 per cent to be integrated in its objectives with the rest of technical incubators in support of the knowledge of economy and entrepreneurship, in addition to its supervision of (Science and Technology Park in the university).

     

    He added, "The Riyadh Techno Valley is located at King Saud University on a total area of 1.670 million square meters, with an achievement rate of 35 per cent. It was established as an investment entity that translated the university's research outputs into products that supported the knowledge of economy in order to achieve sustainable development and create a modern knowledge environment."

    He said that Riyadh Technno Valley oversees a number of strategic objectives that the university aspires to achieve that is to activate and strengthen the constructive cooperation relations between the university and research centers through building an ideal center to attract investors and projects in the field of knowledge and technology.

     

    It is reported that the Public Pension Agency established the " Alraidah Digital City" in Riyadh, with an area of more than 800,000 square meters, as an area that develops the communications and technology sector, in accordance with the "Modon" regulations and requirements.​
